Turn Off Updates for Smart Software in Domain Environment

I am currently building an image for my classroom computers and I need some help. How can I make sure that everyone who logs in will not be prompted to update the Smartboard software? I turn off the updates on my master image, but when the machine is put on the domain, it will prompt every user for updates.

You could block the application that checks for updates from running via Group Policy.

 

I haven't had much experience with Smart Software over the past couple of years so can't say how easy this would be.

Do you think there would be any other way than a group policy change?

What version of smartboard?

 

Are you in a domain environment with group policy? You can "build" a customised version of smart software 10 which will generate an activated copy of the smart software (minus update prompts) and galleries in their own MSI which you can deploy.

 

There's a thread on these forums but you'll need to search as I don't have it.

I would login to system and modify student and staff profile. I would think there is a tick box somewhere to stop updates.

You could block it on your firewall or content filter....

We have the same problem here - our main problem is that it IS blocked by our filters, unfortunately this means a good long wait for users while the update software is looking for it server and times out...

Haven't properly investigated yet, it's only installed on teacher's laptops so we'd be OK with them updating the software so I may just be able to whitelist addresses when it comes to it...

I've stopped the smart updater from running on our image by pulling it out of the registry - can't remember what the key was called off of the top of my head but when I am back in the office tomorrow I will take a look and let you know.

 

The nice thing about pulling this key out, is that they automatic updates stop, but you still have the ability to manually check for updates as you wish.

Use the SMART installation wizard to generate a transformation that turns off updates, inserts the product key, installs galley etc.
