Install Sims/FMS/AnyComms on extra office computer

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I've a school with a Sims set up on a machine by Westfield (As primary peer-peer) and years ago I added 3 extra computers to access it. (2 for the office and one for the headteacher)

I need to replace one of these machines but I haven't touched Sims for 2 years - whats the quickest way to get Sims (and Finance and Anycomms) onto a new machine - can I just run something from the mapped S: drive and get it to automagically do it or do I need to locate an install CD?

regards

You'll need to run simsinst.exe from the setups folder on the shared drive. You'll also want to run simsperm.bat to allow non admin users to upgrade their clients automatically.

Also if you have PARS (It's unlikely you do in a primary school, but future googlers will find this helpful) run the 'PARS .net Workstation Framework.msi' from 'Sims\Pars\wssetup' on the shared drive.

Got Sims up and running - ta :-)

Also got Finance running as well by running the setup from the s: drive and copying an exisiting FMSConnect.ini file from an existing machine to the new one. Also ran into the problem here http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/29918-create-user-dsn-has-failed.html but Fix1 sorted me out :)

Now I just need to get Anycomms onto the machine as well - help please!

Yes you do - but also may need to get details from your LEA about how to set it up with their IP address, or how you "dial in" to relevant servers you need to recieve data from.

I didn't have any Anycomms Installer but a friendly dark lord explained that all I had to do was copy all the anycomms folders in the root of c:\ from the old computer to the new one and it all works fine :)

New machine in service and running fine :)
