RM Tutor 3 users

Hi Guys

 

Quick question about RM Tutor 3

 

I have this installed on all machines in a school. When a teacher logs on in the ICT suite it shows all the computers in the school not just the ICT suite.

 

Do i have to set groups for this or uninstall tutor 3 on all machines apart from the ICT suite.

I don't use RM Tutor 3 (it's just a rebrand of NetSupport) but in one of the file menus there should be an option to add/remove workstations. Here you will be able to choose which computers the software picks up.

 

I can't remember the exact location or wording of it but if nobody comes up with a solution before tomorrow then I'll look.

There's a couple of updates you need to install to fix both that issue and some others.

As well as what's already been suggested you can limit which machines the Tutor connects to in a few ways:

 

1. Using a browse prefix. If you name your machines based on where they are (ie RM1_PC1, RM1_PC2, RM1_PC3 etc) then you can set a browse prefix for a Tutor to only connect to PC's starting with (in this example) RM1. The browse prefix is configured via the 'Configuration' item on the School menu.

 

2. If you machines aren't named this way you can define a list in the Tutor that it will connect to (called the Known list). From the 'School' menu item there is a Modify Known List. This allows you to browse all machines and add the relevant ones to the Tutor.

Install what I suggested, it will do what you want on CC3.

 

The prefixes is useful if you want to see machines in different containers in active directory or so but as you just want whoever's in IT Suite A to see those machines the updates I outlined above will do this.

You can also do this with groups - open RMT3 on one machine, and then create groups which correspond to the various rooms, and add the PCs to them. Then copy C:\ProgFiles\RM\Tutor 3\groups.nss to all PCs (I deliver it with a package) and you're sorted.

 

This allows people to either see all PCs or just their room depending on their need at the time.

Browsing the RM forums some of the patches don't work for some, there is a manual method which is lengthy and long winded.
