DevilsAdvocate Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Has anyone here managed to get PCE to autoupdate from version 3000 to 3007. Have been trying here for a few days now and it just isn't having any of it Proxy settings are in, DEP is set to Windows Files only and still no joy
jamin100 Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 No, it wouldnt work here either. I had to phone forensic software and get them to RDP into my servers and do it. Took the guy about 4 hours to get it to update.
Michael Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I have it deployed with no problems. In the Policy Central Console you have the option of forcing an update, say from v3.0.0.0 to v3.0.0.7 for example. A reboot is then required. If you use BGInfo, I created a custom entry which detects Policy Central and detects the version of the software. It then displays when the computer first starts up (at the logon screen). To do this, within BGInfo navigate to Custom > New. Name it 'Policy Central', then specify 'Version information for a file'. Specify the path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\PCENT\PCClient.exe You can then add the entry (as would normally with BGInfo), restart the machine and there you go. If Policy Central isn't installed, BGInfo will display "not present".
Andyhall Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Managed to update OK as well uisng instructions they supplied. Problem we have is that the Client when run on our Citrix Thin Client servers causes users IE browser sessions to bomb out unexpectedly. This sems to happen on pages that run java. We have removed the PCE client from the servers at the moment.
DevilsAdvocate Posted June 10, 2009 Author Posted June 10, 2009 It's the actual Console we are having trouble updating. We updated manually to version 3000 and it's then supposed to Auto Update to 3007. The Clients all updated fine to 3000. Looks like we'll have to get onto Forensic. Thanks all
jamin100 Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Same here, it was the console that wouldnt update. Once that was updated the clients all followed fine. Speak to Paul Panter at Forensic. 1
linkazoid Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 (edited) At the moment, our staff are constantly complaining about IE crashing.... This has only started since we deployed PCE 3 here a couple of weeks ago. - We have not used any previous versions. We have all options turned off on on pce to do with internet logging. Any recommendations? Michael Edited June 10, 2009 by linkazoid spelling
Wils86 Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 we had update problems here, it could see there was an update outthere but it just couldnt download it. We cleared our cache/squid server (rebooted it and prayed lol) used a tool they sent me which said run and failed, ran it three more time while swearing. 5 hours later it came up and said it had updated fine. Good luck with Forensic software had so many problems in the past getting help.
linkazoid Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 No - Ours is a vanilla network with XP Sp3 clients. Michael
DevilsAdvocate Posted June 11, 2009 Author Posted June 11, 2009 Update - Paul has sorted us out now. Very quick turn around too!
DevilsAdvocate Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 Anyone using Serco Facility ePortal and PCE version 3007 had issues? Now we've updated ePortal seems to keep timing out with connection issues. Remove PCE from the machine and all is fine. Bloody software!

Remove PCE from the machine and all is fine. Bloody software! Unfortunatly this is exactly the same issue we have. Eportal works fine in IE without PCE on the machine, put PCE on and it times out. Mozilla browsers seem unaffected. I've installed prism across the network for the time being.
DevilsAdvocate Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 God damn! Thanks Jamin. This software has been nothing but hassle since we were told by Link2ICT to update from version 2.1.2.8 because of 'internet issues' Guess we'll be taking this off for now. Any idea when this will be fixed?
DevilsAdvocate Posted June 16, 2009 Author Posted June 16, 2009 Link2ICT were somewhat aware of this problem as it had been reported by other schools. They say they are working with Forensics to sort out a patch and will let schools know as soon as it's been resolved. If they knew this was a problem, why still advise schools to update? Ridiculous really.
ranj Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 I wanted to ask, anyone who setup prism did you manage to put the prism package on a share on the server or did you have to create a package for it? If so do you know where we could get hold of an msi for it? What we are thinking at our site is to deploy an eportal link on all users desktop and then force all users to use that or we could have a link on our webpage to run the app. My technician is looking into it and has managed to deploy the prism software but if the link is clicked it then shows the prism app which then needs a user to define the website that they want to go to. Is there anyway to automate this? your help would be most appreciated.

Go to c:\documents and settings\username\application data\prism There should be a folder with random characters in there. Open that folder and inside there will be a folder called webapps. Copy the webapps folder to an accessible server share (mines J:\) Install prism on all required PC's (i used ghost) Copy the e-portal shortcut from the desktop BUT change the Start in folder to the location of the webapps folder on your shared drive. ie: J:\WebApps Make sure users have permission on the folder and it should work .. Thats how i've done it. 1
