plexer Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Had my 2TB Terrastation delivered this morning. Setup on these is a breeze plug them in see what ip it's picked up on the lcd and then do the rest from the web interface. They come configured as RAID5 so that only gives me 1.5TB of usable storage but that should be enough for the time being. I don't really like the idea of the 2 usb ports at the back for adding more storage in the form of usb hard drives as this just seems a kludge. I also bought a SmartUPS 750 to go with it and protect it in the event of power failure and again the setup was all done via the web interface and very easy. Pulled the plug on the ups and 30 seconds later the TS shutdown so that works. It did take 10minutes to copy a gig of data over the network though but that was via a 10/100 connection and I intend to plug it into a 1000 when it's in its new home. Ben
webman Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Excellent news Plexer, glad you like it so far AFAIK, we still haven't had the money allocated for our yet
Nij.UK Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Ive got a GIG version of the above, but its good to know that they are that simple to setup.... Im going to be setting mine up over the summer hols...
plexer Posted July 5, 2006 Author Posted July 5, 2006 Mine won't be used in anger until I've setup up my new fileserver and moved everything around over the summer but it just turned up so I had to unbox it
Sylv3r Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Im hoping to purchase one of these for a backup server. I hope its as easy as you say it is
