What power settings do you use?

We've been thinking about making the power management decent and effective for all of our pcs. Just wondering what others use- Standby, Hibernation, or neither?

 

What about staff desktops that control IWBs? ICT Suite computers?

 

We have the EZGPO system, as well as using a power setting in the startup and login script, but it more the actual values of monitor/hd/standby times etc.

Notebooks/laptops manage themselves quite well in my experience, but with desktops it's more a mixed bag. You'll find older machines 5 years+ probably never go into Standby, however I find most modern desktops do.

 

The only problem with this is machines typically end up getting switch off then back on as pupils sometimes struggle to tell whether the PC is on. They see a blank screen and just go for the power button. Alternatively a class could switch machines off after every lesson, but this is a little extreme and I suspect you'd get more problems with hardware far quicker than switching a PC on and leaving it on for hours at a time.

Can I just ask how you find the EZGPO software I looked into it ages ago but seem to remember some issues with it, I see it's been updated now so I might take another look.

Already said he manages the power using the EZGPO system... WHICH IS FREE (i think)!
