znova Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 a bit out of my league at the moment but someone out there might like it? Working for LEA and pay is not bad either! Jobs at High Peak
michael2k6 Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 I would absolutely love to work in Buxton. Shame the wage isn't higher.
Crispin Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 We appoint on merit and would particularly welcome applications from ethnic minority and disabled people, who are currently under-represented in the Council. Anyone else find this a little strange?
Marci Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Perfectly normal if those groups are under-represented. Council & Government have to make up the quota of minority groups etc to absolve themselves from discrimination accusations and exemplify the equal opps policy, and it qualifies the department in question for further funding etc to cope for the needs of such. Personally I think it's just another way of exploiting of such groups...
znova Posted June 8, 2009 Author Posted June 8, 2009 I agree. My sister was head hunted to work for Microsoft in NY. Wasn't too keen to go and what clinched it for her was the fact that apparently Microsoft (or any large company in the states - might be wrong here) pay huge fines if they do not employ so many women/blacks/disabled people. There are still not that many women programmers. Imagine being offered a job just because it suits the company profile. She declined...
witch Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 To be fair though, I think what they are saying is..don't be put off if you have any of these issues - We all know from these boards that there is discrimination against those who are disabled or whatever, so an advert like this might give those disillusioned people the inclination to apply.
cookie_monster Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 (edited) I would absolutely love to work in Buxton. Shame the wage isn't higher. I do and it's great it does rain quite a bit though. DCC do operate a positive discrimination policy. Edited June 8, 2009 by cookie_monster
