Touch screen alternative to IWB

Is anyone using touch screens instead of IWBs? I'm proposing still using a projector for the big picture but it seems that the interactive surface at £700 ish cheaper than a full IWB and providing the ability to not cast a shadow and not get blinded and to write at a more "normal" size are just some of the advantages. (no calibration when the projector moves, projected image sizes not limited to board size etc)

 

We're struggling for funding and have three IWBs that need replacing. Iiyama do a 19" for about £350.

 

I just need feedback either on this before committing any of our limited funds.

how about a geene slate it is a wireless tablet this should do what you want i think.

The problem we've always found with tablets is looking at the board for the image and writing on teh slate. Its no where near as intuitive as writing where you're looking.

But surely they'd be looking at a monitor and writing on the slate? rather than at the board.

 

A touchscreen monitor is well and good, but they're not gonna be able to use smart pens on it....what is the illyama product you've seen?

 

SMART do a touchscreen smartboard overlay for large plasmas, but they're pretty expensive.

We have actually been testing this idea in a few schools with an asus eee top. It seems to be working really well, our next move is a tablet and wireless projector hopefully so the kids can write on it easily.

Our biology department is going to try out using some cheap touchscreen monitors to see how they get on as they haven't been won over by the IWB but need to move on from OHP.

 

The screen model they are trying out is - Iiyama Pro Lite T1930SR-B1

 

(they work much better with a stylus than a finger)

 

 

Early feedback seems to suggest they are getting to grips with them but it's not a perfect replacement but still better than a IWB

These ones are made by SMART but you can find other brands etc which may suite you better.

 

Basically it's a touch screen monitor, just needs a VGA cable and a USB to work and you can see the live image in front of you.

EEEtop was our first option but I'm not too sure if it would be up to running all the software they may require of it, sods law says a cad lesson will get re-timetabled the day we intall it and it won't run autocad!

 

How is it running full screen video?

 

EEEtop was part of my "media trolley" plans with a monitor arm mounted eeetop, short throw projector and big speakers all in one trolley with just one power socket (and maybe a UPS to a) stop it turning over and B provide power until the projector has powered off)

These 7" touch screen tablets cost $189

completely no use whatsoever for projectors, but they look kinda cool

To be honest its hard to notice its only got an atom processor unless your doing something really strenuous. have notice any problems with full screen video and runs every app we have tried. Really like the media trolley idea they can be vesa mounted.

I might try one of the eee top Pcs to see how we get on. Were you able to get a demo unit before committing your cash? If so where from? Our usual supplier has been having problems.

eInstruction - INTERWRITE Panel is the option I would choose because it operates in the same way as our Interwrite boards. Not sure on pricing though.
