I am trying to find who owns a domain name, but they have their details hidden from WHOIS. Is there a way of finding out who owns a domain name when they have opted out of displaying their details publicly?

It's likely to depend whether it's a .uk or .com etc - different registrars have different policies.

Nominet won't give you details of the registrant if they've opted out of whois; the best you can do is persuade them they are doing something dodgy and have a police investigation.

If there's something dodgy going on you can also contact the host. Look at the NS for the domain and work out who the host is from that.
