A3 Colour Laser printers

Never brought one before, but I've been asked to look into purchasing one for our new Business and Enterprise area coming this summer, so any recommendations from people?

 

I quite like the look of the Xerox Phaser 7400, but have no real idea apart from reviews to go by, so has anyone got recomendations for this type of printer?

Don't buy, rent an all-in-one A3 colour photocopier/network printer. You'll get a service agreement for if/when it goes wrong and pay per page instead of for the toner cartridges.

We havn't got the room in the area it's going in for a copier type printer as they tend to be bigger, and also the academy don't want to enter into any leasing agreements at the moment so we are looking to buy. It's probably not going to get enough use to cover the usual minimum monthly/yearly quantites that a lot of leases have, and we already have a networked colour copier that is used by staff and reprographics for our bulk printing that we get charged by the page for.

 

This is going to be available for students to print to, but only on approval of the teacher and there will be tight controls on the number of copies and who can authorise printing to it to keep the running costs down - based on the number of prints that the cartridges can do in these devices, I don't anticipate changing them more than once a year.

We've been looking for something similar for our technology department. They do a lot of heavy printing in A3. Unfortunately the cheapest ones that I've been looking at are all over a thousand pounds....

I've been using an OKI C830 for a few months now and I can highly recommend them.

We had one HP 5500 A3 printer for Reprograhics

 

Then Media wanted one

Then D+T wanted one

 

Now D+T want another and Art want one too!

 

Who pays for the printers and the toners and has to support the bloody thing?

Another vote for the HP 5550 series. We have a school with 17 of these beasts. The one and only printer in each dept. Consumables aren't that cheap but they are excellent in terms of reliability.

I used to work for Printware LTD... they are the biggest Xerox Reseller in Europe and a preferred HP partner... they usually have some really good deals on the printers like automatic cashback and free warranties or toners...

i would give them a call and ask to speak to ANN BELCHER... she's the most experienced one there and she'll sort you out a good deal on what is best for your requirements on 02392 623 333 she is really helpful!

We rent a networked colour laser copier, works out at £100 per 1/4 0.5p per bw print and 5p per full colour A3 print. We don't pay for toner just the cost per page.Its a Rioch copier. Slashed our print costs.

Try Ricoh. The beauty of them is that the cost per page is the same for A4 and A3, so if you are doing loads of A3 its a bargain! Just make sure you get it on catalyst framework contract as then there is no minimum number of pages you need to print per quarter.

all our copiers are Ricoh and we have replaced our ageing Konica Minolta with a Ricoh Aficio MP C7500 and its already done 25000 A3 colour prints no bother at all. Its leased by the way.

Another vote for the HP 5500's and HP 5550's. We've got a few dotted around the site here and they're real workhorses, no major complaints. We looked briefly at renting, but we've already got a big investment in the hardware and these things last for years with very little servicing so we're happy. DT put tens of thousands of pages through theirs and it's still going strong.

 

EDIT - It's worth noting ours are out in the open in classrooms or open areas for the kids to print directly to as they wish. We get through a lot of toner, and all our 5500/5550/4650's are up to it.

Using the oki c810 and c830 here, work brilliantly you have a little more to maintain over the HP's but running costs are down on the HP's. HP's toner prices recently have priced them out of consideration.
