  1. Are you able to run a Data Export for a Subject Access Request etc. in SIMS still or is it totally locked down at the end of the contract? I was under the impression that we would still be able to do this post contract but based upon the email (as OP stated) we received today, it sounds like this isn't going to now be possible.
  2. Does anyone have any recommendations for SMS provider for use within EduLink One? Also, has anyone found any issues with the messaging functionality?
  3. Has anyone had this yet?! I was told it was released to all SOLUS 2 and 3 schools earlier, but I'm still waiting to be able to download it?! When will I learn to not apply any SIMS.net updates until about 1 month after they've been released?
  4. In your SIMS.net setups folder you'll find the NovaSatelliteSettup.exe. Run this on your standalone PC. It will install files to C:\Program Files\SIMS\SATS Once install has finished go to this location and you will find a NOVA folder. In here is the NovaT6Setup. Run this...
  5. Hello, Version 6.24 Build 17 here too.
  6. Not sure if this has been posted before....
  7. Hi guys, Thanks for all the advice, I've booked a meeting with my line manager so that everything can be clarified. That way I can find out exactly what they are wanting and have my say! Fortunately my new line manager (one of the Vice Principals) is very supportive so we'll see how that goes! Many thanks! Toby
  8. At present I am just a humble Data Manager no where near SLT or their pay scales! We got turned into an Academy last September as we were a failing school. From a brief conversation it seems they are just wanting someone on the staff who is making sure we are complying with all data laws etc in how we store, manage and distribute data. Sorry I can't be any more help than that, but the people above don't really know what they want as well.
  9. That's a good question... and my answer to that is I don't know. All I've been told is that I will be the Data Protection lead in the school and I need to find a course... I expect Data Security, Information Standards, the legal side of things and the Freedom of Information/Data Protection Acts will probably be the first areas I would look at but I'm hoping someone does (I'm guessing this will be a long shot) a general course suited for educational facilities etc.! Many thanks!
  10. Hi! I've been told I have to find a Data Protection Course to go on and was wondering if anyone could suggest one or any training companies that would be able to help (ideally a course which is certificated or will give me something to go on my CV!) Many thanks!
  11. Very strange as I didn't have to do any of that... Are you using Excel 2010?
  12. I changed your column B (Code) to numbers by highlighting the column, right click Format Cells and in the Category list selected Number. I then used the vlookup formula I included in the spreadsheet. You use FALSE when you want vlookup to find only an exact match, TRUE finds an exact or approximate match. hope that helps!
  13. Try this... You need to make sure your code column is numbers/text. By adding the $ in front of the table_array will fix the table so when you copy/paste or drag down the list it will stay the same. Hope it helps. Client Codes.xlsx
  14. There is a job as a SIMS Manager available in an outstanding school in York... We are looking for an experienced SIMS user to be responsible for all aspects of the SIMS operating system. To include reporting, assessment, tracking, analysis, course manager and census returns; staff training; and co-ordination of BTEC courses. Grade 8 (£24,098 to £27,186 pro rata). This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward looking, high performing Church of England comprehensive, "an outstanding school" (Ofsted) with high added value. Leading Edge, Science and Applied Learning statuses. Excellent new facilities; very good staff support. Closing date 18.8.11. See the school website Archbishop Holgate's School for more details. ----------------------------------------------------- If you want to ask any questions let me know as this is my current job that I am leaving in a few weeks time and I'll try and answer all queries!
  15. Mine turned up this morning! Thank you!!
  16. Email sent - Thank you!
  17. We have had this exact same problem when staff are filling in Behaviour Logs. You will find it probably isn't a random amount of time and that it will be the exact time in seconds that the My Messages box on the homepage is set to to check for new messages. We found extending this time to it's max (every 5 mins) was normally enough to make teachers happy. However, we got a patch released to us a little while later to resolve this problem! So check with whoever provides your SIMS.net support.
  18. When you started it to wind down the windows did you only have the engine running for a few seconds? As if I do that with my car I have terrible problems starting it next time because the engine gets flooded with too much fuel (I think - I'm not great with cars) So I always make sure I leave it running for a few minutes that way I have no problems! Could it be something like this?
  19. I've been using an OKI C830 for a few months now and I can highly recommend them.
  20. The best free app has to be Shazam. If you travel a lot on the tube system in London for a very small amount 79p or something use TubeDeluxe which is really good.
  21. We had this exact same problem recently. We had to detach the database and then re-attach it before everything would work again. Here is what our county helpdesk sent us to resolve this issue: Open dbAttach Backup the "SIMS" database, close the error message and click on backup at the right. Close and re-open dbAttach. Detach the "SIMS" database. Close dbattach. Cut and paste the "SIMS.MDF" and "SIMS.LDF" files to another location. Run dbAttach. Browse to this new location for the "SIMS" file, type "SIMS" as your database and re-attach. Try loggig into "SIMS .net" on the server. --------------------- Also they sent me this Capita Doc: KB72254 - SIMS Connection failed for Login USERNAME reason: 0 - When logging into SIMS .net ________________________________________ Created 07/08/2007 Last Updated 07/01/2009 ________________________________________ Affected Products SIMS .net Setup & Permissions SIMS .net Installation & Upgrade ________________________________________ Notes When logging into SIMS .net SIMS Connection failed for Login USERNAME reason: 0 This will only occur if you are on August 2007 or later version of SIMS .net ________________________________________ Advice PLEASE NOTE : FIX 1 IS ONLY RELEVANT IF THE USER'S PASSWORD HAS BEEN RESET Fix 1 This may be due to the 'Enforce Password Policy' settings within SQL 2005 To change this, log into SQL Server Management Studio and expand the Security tree and then the Logins tree. Find the user that is getting the error, right click on their name and select properties. In the Login Properties window, remove the tick from the 'Enforce Password Policy' tick box and then click OK. Close SQL Server Management Studio. Fix 2 The machine may be pointing to a incorrect networked Connect.ini file and therefore cannot see any SQL Server or Database. Delete the Connect.ini from e.g. C:\Program files\SIMS\SIMS .net and then run SIMS .net and select the correct Connect.ini from e.g. S:\SIMS or alternatively create a local connect.ini and enter the correct SQL Server and Database name. Also check that the connect.ini in the S:\SIMS folder is pointing to the correct server\instance and the database Fix 3 The error can also be an indication that the upgrade has been run, but has been unsuccessful. Please check that the version of SIMSSQLApplicationsetup.exe in the setups folder is 1.574.12.0 (for August 2008 release). Then run this to upgrade to version of DBupgrade Run Dbupgrade.exe manually from e.g. D:\Program files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Binn (This should be version 2.20.3.0). The list of upgrade files will be shown or there may be a message about a User already logged in. If Users are detected, a Force All will need to be run to exit the Users out of SIMS to allow the upgrade to commence (requiring the SA logon credentials). This Force All option will appear automatically if Users are detected as being logged in. Once this has completed run SIMSApplicationsetup.exe on the machine that is generating the error Fix 4 If the error still occurs and you installed SQL Server 2005, but did not use our installer then please follow KB71936 Fix 5 Check there is sufficient space on the partition where SQL is installed. Also check the system partition has sufficient space as temporary files can be created during the backup. Check the size of the SQL Log file eg SIMS.LDF. If excessively large use SHRINKDBLOG.BAT to shrink the log file. Fix 6 Please ensure that SQL connections are allowed through the Firewall. For information on how to do this, see the Microsoft article relating to How to: Configure a Windows Firewall for Database Engine Access Fix 7 Please also ensure that TCP/IP and Named Pipes are enabled. To Enable TCP/IP and Named Pipes, please see KB79978 ---------------------------------------- Hope this is helpful!
  22. Nope, we don't get this issue on any of our wired PCs with SIMS.net. However, the wireless connection is excellent and the AP is in the actual room that this laptop is having issues in.
  23. Hello all, We keep getting the following error on a few of our laptops when using SIMS.net over our wireless network, does anyone have any ideas? The wireless connection doesn't drop and is excellent throughout the SIMS.net failure. Could it be a SQL Server 2005 problem and if so any ideas? Not being great on the technical side of things your help is much appreciated! Toby
  24. what about this... Wi-Fi Detector It might not provide you with "all" of the information you require...
  25. We've had it here now for about a year and as a number of people have already said it's buggy and slow at times and the reporting is poor. I totally agree that it was released far to early and unfortunately we are still experiencing problems due to this. However, the support is very good and when our librarian phones up for help they are very helpful and are able to talk her through different procedures in terms she can understand instead of having to come and get one of us techies!
