CESIL Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Hi Folks, I am in the process of buying new laptops for our teachers for use with IWBs. As I have had a fair few problems with broken laptops and/or cables due to the constant plugging in/out I want to use some sort of port replicator. Do any of you have experience with the different types of replicators (ie docking station or USB) with regard to performance when showing video through a projector? Thanks
enjay Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Not answering your video question, but related to port replicators, we have one here where the teacher periodically has issues when he connects it to the wrong USB port - for some reason, the computer insists on the docking station being in a particular USB port for it to see the printer which is on the docking station.
plexer Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 The toshiba port replicators do say in the insturctions that movies may be a problem. They compress the vga and it's shown at 1024 x 768 I think it is. When you think it's doing headphone, mic, optical audio, vga, usb hub all down a single usb 2 connection it's a stretch. you oculd forgo the vga ones and just get a replicator with everything else then it's only a single vga and single usb they have to connect. Ben

Thanks What kind of laptops are you using? Maybe there is already a docking station solution from the manufacturer and you can avoid using slow USB based replicators...

So far only the option from Dell includes a dedicated docking station...but that causes other problems...mainly to do with space.

robmal Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Yes we have one coming to play with too - must compare findings.... Reports from other places suggest its not the solution - too may user (teacher) issues with screen resolution, cursors going missing etc. We shall see Rob
