What is eating my pagefile?

Our Pagefile uage has shot up to 99% on our Forest Root this afternoon ... nothing obvious is sucking the life out of the server ... not looking for a miracle cure as we'll reboot systems this evening and apart from being unable to access the management console and RDP (although this appears to be working again now) ... users are currently unaffected.

 

Any ideas where to llok for causes? Event Log hasn't yielded much yet ... but there's a lot to trawl through.

Hi ... might be worth putting your pagefile on a different drive and see what happens !!

I'm guessing you're viewing this via taskmanager ? If so, if you check the "processes" tab, and then View \ Select Columns, you can add a load of other useful things like "mem usage" etc, and this can be sorted highest>lowest.

 

I usually find it is firefox and/or mcafee using as much memory as they can get hold of, although I wouldn't have thought you were using firefox on the server.

Unable to move the pagefile at the moment, but since this is the 1st occurance in 11 months of me working here I doubt it has much or anything to do with the location of the pagefile.

 

I am indeed looking at it in the task manager and have had a good look through the processes. Nothing that would account for 99% use of a 7.75GB Pagefile (well 3.75GB RAM & 4GB Pagefile). It regularly sits around 1.5-2gb usage.

A restart has cleared it and no recurrence so far.

You've got pagefile pac man... we have dhcp pac man here, something eats all our ip addresses.
