Image deployment admin password

I am using WDS to deploy XP images but at the point where the target machine runs the mini setup it pauses with a dialog box saying it couldn't change the admin password and I will have to change manually.

 

When I click 'Ok' the deployment carries on as normal (without asking me change password) and finishes as normal. The admin password is as it should be ands all other settings seem to be as they should.

 

Although the deployment goes ok apart from that pause, its annoying that I can't jsut leave it but have to be around to click 'Ok'

 

Any ideas?

I've found this when encrypting the password in the answer file. Try it in plain text.

I had a similar problem. It was related to encryption of the password in the sysprep.inf answer file i think. If you don't encrypt it see what results you get.

I have had this problem with builds too. But I think it was because I was building the machines in an OU which has our basic workstation GPO and domain GPO applied to it. They include disabling the local admin account and I thought the problem was that the sif file couldn't change the password of a disabled account.

 

So the fact my local admin accounts may or may not have a password doesn't bother me as they are disabled.

Not sure that is the best policy. If you boot the machine up in safe mode, I believe you would then be able to log in to the machine without a password, as by design, XP will enable the local administrator so you can fix any network related problems with your machine which stop you authenticating to the domain.
