Moodle vs Joomla for Primary

I appreciate that its not one or the other, but what functionality does Moodle have over and above Joomla for a primary school? I have done a couple of Joomla sites now and feel reasonably confident setting one up, but the benefits of running a Moodle site along side it escape me. From what I can see you can create content straight in Joomla there is not the set course outline that primaries teach like you may have in a secondary/further ed environment so there is not the logical progression through a course that starts and finishes on a certain date. From what I have seen from the LA provided VLE it is mainly used to show a series of links to websites, although one school is using it to show how wikis work and another is looking to set up a forum, but from what I can see neither Joomla or Moodle have this functionality built in. With the web host I have I can see in cpanel the option to create forums and wikis. I guess this would lead to multiple login usernames and passwords as the various sites would not be integrated.

Joomla is more of a website CMS, so in an education enviroment this would sit as your front end website as Joomla does not have the VLE part. which is where moodle comes in moodle gives you the ability to setup courses for pupils etc and yeah you can use it to setup forums, wiki's, blogs etc but it is the courses part your really after.

 

Joomla could not replce moodle, and moodle could not replace joomla they can run perfect side by side doing the 2 roles.

They also have code to integrate the two so that one login can be used across both it's a not perfect but it works.

Search tool of your forum helped me best of all ))))) Downloaded trial version and will test it. It seems easy to integrate it with Joomla.

Moodle vs Joomla:

As for me I usually use JoomlaLMS if the client wants a full Joomla solution and can afford it. If they are ok with a bridge and have the expertise for it then I go with Moodle. IF they do NOT have the expertise, they wind up paying as much for "outside help" with Moodle or Ilias as they would just going with a native solution to start with. Joomla based solution offers "more than plenty" features for any e-learning client. So, I can't vote for Moodle or Joomla, I vote both. Everything depends on a client.
