Hi all,

I’m looking to buy a dell mini 9 or 10 or hp 2144 Netbook for myself in the next 2 months as a replacement to my PDA, and was wondering if people have any thoughts on these, also if anyone has put vista on a dell mini because at one point dell had the Vista drivers for dell mini 9 or 10 on their support site.

Thanks Andy

Any particular reason why your just looking at those?

I have a Samsung NC10 , everything flies and it has a stupid battery life

The reason I’m looking at the Dell's is because I use dell products and i know that they’re going to last and the hp 2140 is because is has vista business which means it could be added to a domain. So that is also why I wondered if anyone has installed vista on a dell mini.

Careful, I almost pmsl.

A support call for us to dell usually goes like this...

[me]

Hi we have a optiplex with a 3yr on site warranty, the powerpack just went bang, smoke and a bad smell is emanating from said powerpack, we need a engineer to replace it.

[dell]

ok. i understand but i have a call sheet to work from.

[me]

er ok.

[dell]

is there a power light on the front that lights up green when you power on?

[me]

NO. the powerpack just blew.

[dell]

if you dont have a green light is the PC plugged into the mains?

[me]

give me a break, we have ONSITE warranty, after 20yrs working on PCs i can identify a blown PSU. Please send an engineer.

[dell]

well we dont know if it's the powerpack or the motherboard.

[me]

Look, youre wasting my time now. i cant tell if it's screwed the motherboard, i am sure the engineer can replace it if it has gone.

[dell]

the engineer will only have a powerpack with him, unless we can ascertain if the motherboard has blown.

[me]

how are you going to do that then.

[dell]

have you got another PC YOU could swap the powerpack over with?

[me]

you must be joking, i'm not going to take a PC out of production and waste an hour of my technicians time replacing it, thats your job, thats why i paid for the warranty.

[dell]

If i sent you a replacement powerpack, can you fit it yourself?

[me]

just send it

I've found that if you call before 12 you tend to get better service from dell then after. You also seems to get Americans after 12. Funny how things turn out
