[ghost] Ghost/Imaging options?

I've been using a linux System Recovery disc to create images and to shoot those images to machines one at a time. This - as you can imagine - is not very efficient.

 

We've been looking at Acronis and Ghost thus far, but there has to be other options out there.

 

Can anyone suggest an imaging solution that they are using and why they like it?

SystemRescueCD on a small partition on each PC's harddrive, then use Grub to select which one to boot into. Autorun script on SystemRescueCD connects to network share, re-images other harddrive partition, reboots back into Windows.

 

 

It doesn't cost us any money.

Actually, that's what I am currently using. The only complaints that I've had are:

1: I have troubles needing to update drivers so SystemRescueCD recognize every machine. (see #3)

2: We're limited by 3 images on the network at one time, we dont know why. (see #3)

3: I have very limited experiance with Linux and can't find myself to be motivated enough to want to learn it.

I've recently used PING to image a set of eeePC via PXE from our RIS/WDS server but only one at at time.

 

However I did investigate Clonezilla which does have the ability to image multiple workstations simultaneously (though wasn't right for our needs).

 

I also stumbled across FOG but haven't got as far as investiagting its abilities.

Norton Ghost is great,

 

1) Multicasting functionality is top of my list really, as it doesnt create duplicate traffic no matter how many machines you ghost at one time. Also means they all finish at the same time (usually pushes out images at 600MB/min)

 

2) The server console is real simple to use, you can choose whatever image you want from here, or whether you want to create a new image.

 

3) Its relatively straight forward to set up too

 

I dont have many bad things to say about WDS either, if youve got windows servers then its no extra cost to you, and it does the job, though with less flexibility than ghost but hey, its a free addon for ms server

I use FOG and it works very well. its relativley easy to setup and best of all its free.

We've just started using FOG here and it looks very very promising.
