aero feature

hi,

Is anybody running vista beta 2 with aero feature. I am unable turn the feature on. my machine is p4 ht 3gig 64 bit. 1 gig ram . nvidia geforce 7300 le 256mb graphics card. i selected the card by following the link from vista homepage. anybody know any links to check why i am unable to run aero and windows flip 3d features.

I'm running Aero on a P4 3.4, with 1gig and a Radeon 9800 Pro

I'm running it at home with a 6800GT and at work using a Radeon Xpress 200 on-board graphics chip. Both computers have 2GB RAM and an Athlon 64 3000+

 

It actually works better on the PC with the on-board ATi.

I suspect the ATI vista drivers are superior to the Nvidia ones. I guess this is where the problem is steming from.

Running it at home on an AMD 2400 1g RAM, NVidia GeForce 6200 & Aero working fine on it, but not on the test pc at the school - cant mind the specs offhand...

I'm running Vista on 3 machines

 

Dell optimax 170l desktop 1gig ram with built in 8meg graphics. Aero works but without transparency, which amazed me.

 

AMD Athlon 1.4ghz 1gig ram and a geforce 4ti 128meg Works flawlessly with the drivers included with vista on this and seems no slower than the server 2003 it was running before.

 

P4 3.2ghz 1gig ram geforce 6800 256mb. Aero works flawlessly before and after upgrading to the driver nvidia have on they're site but performance on this machine in Vista is well bellow XP altho it does still run WoW and Guildwars playably same can't really be said for Quake 4 at 1280x1024.

XGL/Compiz beats Vista hands down and then some. It even gives Mac OS X a run for its money. But with Leopard coming out soon...

I installed Xgl to try out on mum's new Ubuntu Dapper install; she wasn't impressed by the effects when I showed her (not even the spinning cube!) but I certainly was 8)

I know computers are fast becoming more and more powerful. Who doesn't? But do you not think the spec of machine needed to run aero is a bit ridiculous? I mean, you can run OSX Tiger on a G3 with 256mb RAM and 3gb HD space. That's a computer that is 5 or so years old!!!

 

Now, most people will have to buy a new computer if they want to run aero.

Conspiracy between MS and the OEMs to get people to upgrade the computers or buy new ones in order to get the "fantastic new benefits" of the latest "secure operating system" to come from MS? Or just that it's badly-coded and they can't get it to work on older hardware?

I already have that sort of spec (and some) machine at home to play games on. So it's a non-issue.

 

At work, screw it. XP Pro for the foreseeable future.

 

Anyway, if anyone wants to see Linux XGL/Compris, Apples Aqua and Vista's Aero side by side there's some nice comparison videos in this article.
