cookie_monster Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I have the fear. Anyone deploying this via WSUS yet, how does it perform on older hardware I've read a few horror stories online some complaining 10% plus stations failing to install correctly. I'm also trying to work out if the .NET 3.5 Family Update is now the primary program for patching .NET 2.0 installs. We have .NET 2.0 SP1 on our stations and they all report needing .NET 3.5 updates even though 3.5 is not installed.
Michael Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 The advantage of .NET 3.5 SP1, is it also includes .NET 2.0 SP2 and .NET 3.0 SP2, so this may explain why you're recommended to install it.
SYNACK Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I have only had problems with this on a filthy old SBS 2003 R2 server. It has installed fine on all the other machines that I have put it on (Vista 32bit) and actually lead to a perceptible speed boost on older hardware with Vista. Seemed to install fine on the XP stations to but we don't have to many of them around any more.
AngryTechnician Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 We haven't had any failed installs, but due to the size of the package it does take considerably longer than your average update to install. Plan your installation time accordingly.
cookie_monster Posted April 21, 2009 Author Posted April 21, 2009 @ Michael, yes I've noticed 3.5 installing every version which is a bit of a pain on older hardware. I installed 3.5 yesterday and now my PC shows .NET 2.0 SP1 and 3.0 SP1 not SP2. @ SYNACK, We still have some P3 1GHz boxes around running XP and I'm trying not to kill them (well I'd like to kill them really).
Michael Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Just to clarify, .NET 3.5 also installs .NET 2.0 SP1 and .NET 3.0 SP1 .NET 3.5 SP1 also installs .NET 2.0 SP2 and .NET 3.0 SP2 1
gshaw Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 4 different .NET versions... 2 different service packs for each... MS really didn't think this through very well did they
