What do you do with end of year pupils in Moodle?

Before you know it the summer break will be here and that'll also mean moving pupils up a year etc in Moodle. As this is my first year implementing this VLE I haven't had to move students about too much. I've searched the Moodle site/forums but only come up with resetting courses. What is the recommended procedure at year's end?

The process I like is this:

 

All courses from 07/08 are archived, this just means all course get moved to a catergory called "Archive" and have .2007/08 added to there name. They are also hidden from students and are nolonger enrollable.

 

The courses are still available to staff and when I create all the new classes in September they are able to either use backup or import in Moodle to bring resources from the archive into this years class.

 

At the moment I havent dealt with leavers, I'll probably write a script to set all the leavers profiles as "deleted" in Moodle DB. If i need to re-instate any I can.

All our courses are imported directly from SIMS timetables, so at the end of august the yr 10 students automatically populate the yr 11 courses and the yr 11 students are removed.

We think this is the best way, provided the course codes stay the same the content stays but the students change.

I think forum posts remain, actually. But in our case some students do coursework on Moodle and this goes if they are unenrolled as you say. (yes -it does come back if you re-enrol them ) So as you have to keep coursework for several years AFAIK for exam boards then we do not unenrol year 11s from those courses.

Forum posts do remain but without the users name against them i beleive.

 

As far as i know everything becomes disconnected, however reinstating the user brings everything back to life.
