Xserve Filtering Software

Hi Guys

 

Does anyone use any filtering software on an xserve? And if yes, how do you find it?

 

We're thinking of getting some and was keen to see whats being used already.

 

I am aware of the ability to prevent access to some websites using parental controls, however this didn't prove all that effective when combined with my lack of knowledge

To do (some of) our Internet filtering, we use Censornet's free software on a dedicated box. I'm not aware that there's a proxy/filter built in to OS X Server.

Theres a squid and dansguardian installation that you can get. I think the guy who used to do it was called dave lopata. I will see if i still have his web address.

 

There is a package that you can also download here but this may not be what you were asking at all. If not then my apologies.

IIRC i think i saw a basic proxy configuration under the web service option. This is of course 10.5 server...

Is there anywhere I can get more information on this? Both of us techy's here haven't had an experience of Virtual Servers let alone Virtual Linux builds with filtering?

 

Could we use a Virtual Windows build if we had the licensing?

Download manual to help with configuration.

Install and configure censornet.

Censornet seems to be giving me some problems

 

something about a password when I haven't been given one.

Or set one for that matter.

 

Also, been reading up on it abit more. It's not actually free.

I believe this is the one i've installed and it's asking for a password I haven't got or set

I am not sure what the password it is asking for since it has been over a year since i last installed it. I may be able to find the disc out and try a re-install. Tried to download it but it was taking far too long. Around 7 hours for 240-odd meg iso

Would be appriciated.. I can't find anything on the web concerning this password either, and I've literally tried everything I could think of.

I *believe* censornet's default pw is "admin/password". But don't quote me on that

Just found my install guides for censornet.

 

The default root password is root.
