Loz Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Hi there, Basically a friend of mine has been using Outlook 6 since it came out. He's only just decided he's going to swap to Outlook 2000. When he transfers his 10,000 e-mails across they all lose there sent/recieved address and date. Any idea why this is happening and how I can sort it? Cheers
EduTech Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I'm guessing your doing export in outlook and then importing the file into outlook?
Loz Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Yup tried it that way and tried dragging and dropping.
Michael Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 From memory, is it because Outlook 2000 doesn't display all columns like Outlook Express 6 probably does (as it's newer)? Outlook 2000 can, you may just need to specify which additional columns, such as date received etc... Right clicking at the top of an existing column should give you some options.
Loz Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 What it's doing is setting the date/time of when it was sent or received as the current time and date.
Michael Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I can't think what would be causing that as you're creating an Export and then Importing into Outlook 2000. However if you manually sent/forwarded all your e-mails from Outlook Express and then received them in Outlook 2000, then it would use the current date and time. The only other thing you could try is making sure Outlook 2000 is at SP3 level + any additional hotfixes. Office 2000 was a nightmare patch wise as you'd need to apply Service Pack or Service Release (as it was called) SR1a, then SP2, then SP3. This is a very time consuming process, but it would be necessary to ensure your security was up-to-date.
EduTech Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I have just setup an account in outlook on my windows xp test bed, exported the emails and then imported them into outlook and it worked fine. but if i forwarded the emails i would get the new date/time. *Which is what you would expect to happen* The only difference is i am running office 2003. James.
Michael Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I've migrated Outlook Express 6 to Outlook 2003 lots of times, but not to Outlook 2000. There shouldn't be any difference, but as I already stated Outlook Express 6 is newer than Outlook 2000. I'm not sure if this is significant or not?
