Joomla & Webcams

I'm knew to Joomla and currently using V1.5 on my school site but looking after another site using V1.0 and it is this site that I need help with. (I will be upgrading at some point!)

 

I have an IP address for a webcam and need to embed this into the V1.0 site so visitors can see whats going on! I have no idea how to do this...can anyone help and give me bullet point instructions on doing this?

Thanks for the link Jeff, much appreciated. However, I still need help! I have uploaded and installed the CamView module..but what do I have to do next? I'm having a blonde moment I feel and would really appreciate if someone could give me quick bullet points on what to do next..as I say I am a complete novice at this (for the moment!). How do I get the images/video from the IP address of the webcam on a new school build displaying on the joomla website V1 I've now got to maintain?

First thing is to get Yawcam (or another webcam uploader) to start grabbing pictures and uploading them to a folder (say /images/stories/webcam ) on your website.

 

As long as your familiar with FTP, the instructions with Yawcam should get you this far.

 

Once you've got your uploading sorted, then you can just adjust camviewer to display the picture (for testing I suggest publish it to your left column on your front page )

 

MAKE SURE ANY TEST PICTURES ARE TOTALLY APPROPRIATE FOR A SCHOOL WEBSITE!!!!

Yawcam installed, ftp details I'm fine with. However can't select a camera under the 'camera' option as I'm not on the same network - all I've been given is the IP address of the camera, so is there anyway in which I can input this into Yawcam to grab the images (can't see anything obvious) or I could bypass this and give the building company ftp details direct to the website to upload the images - if I did the latter then how do I use the Camviewer module in Joomla to display the images? (I've got that installed and set to appear on the left column as suggested...I've done something right!!!)

what make and model is the cam ??

Sorry don't know about the make and model of the cam and can't get hold of construction company to find out!

Does this webcam produce its own web page?

Can you see any pictures at all?

Yep, the IP address put in the browser display realtime images and there is a drop down option to change the fps varying from 2s to 10min or off.

I think the easiest way to view this is to just to put the existing camera generated webpage inside an iframe and let it do the hard work

 

the alternative is to try and see if camviewer will work with

http://qqq.rrr.sss.ttt:8000/record/camera.jpg

as that is the address of the image that the camera is updating

Huge thanks Simon...it works!

 

I have it in an IFrame. Only query now is how do I get the IFrame to open in a new window as its within the current webpage.

 

I've got:

{iframe height="400" frameborder="1"}http://urltowebcam{/iframe}

 

I've tried putting in target="_blank" but not having much luck, any ideas?

Well Iframes are for viewing other websites as if they were part of the main website.

 

If you want the site to appear in its own window - then just create a link to the site

how do you do network attached webcams or security cameras. What I want to do is to set this up for some of the security personnel and the administration. They can go and log in and only have access to this by being in a certain user group.

 

It is possible for them to see a smaller image that is "real time" and then when they click on it they get a "bigger" image stream of it?

 

In addition, can Yawcam handle many cameras at once? that is what i want it to do and have each camera share a dedicated IP address but each camera has its own port number.

 

can it do that?

 

Edit @ April 26, 2009: 2156 -4 GMT:CamVideo or what ever it is called only works with Joomla 1.0 Native. AllVideos Reloaded is a nice program that runs on 1.5 Joomla Native. Thought I would share it.

Yep, i'm confused as well.

 

I was originally asked to embed the camera link into the website so as 'people couldn't mess with it'! - using Iframe has worked and I'm happy with that - I had scroll bars which didn't look particularly good, however having had another look at the settings this morning I hadn't set these to 'off' - perhaps if I hadn't had the extra glass of wine yesterday afternoon I would have spotted it!

 

Needless to say, alls well and huge thanks for your help.
