Will I break it?

On one of my servers the Users group has Read and Execute, List and Read permissions to the root of E drive. This is being inherited throughout all of the folder structure on that drive which is giving me some security issues.

 

If I remove the Users group from the root of E will I break the Server? All Staff and Students already have permissions individually set for the areas they need to access.

if users are set set in there own areas then you shouldn't have problems - you might want to check public areas and group sharing though

That appears to have worked. The real test will be when everyone is back.

Try creating a copy of each user type; for example a pupil and a staff user. So long as they're a member of the same security group, you should be able to test whether access to network drives works OK.

Should be ok as Micheal says use a staff/pupil account to test the permissions on the folders

make sure the system and administrators accounts still have full access though - dont wanna lock yourself out.
