What level of functionality is required

I'm currently looking into building a Edugeek Jomoola web site for one of the schools I work at. SWGfL tell me "the web site will be hosted on the standard web hosting package, which means that the server will support FrontPage 2003 extensions and ASP" . And that You'll need to double-check what functionality the Edugeek Joomla package needs. Anyone enlighten me more please?

It sounds to me it's a Windows Server hosting package which supports ASP, ASP.NET or .NET Framework 2.0 and sometimes MS SQL.

 

Joomla requires PHP 4.2.x and MySQL 3.23.x to operate. You could host this on Windows Server, however (as I am sure people would agree), a Linux hosting solution would/should support PHP and MySQL and is usually a little cheaper too.

Agreed, you can run Joomla on a Windows IIS server but it is more hassle and will probably not perform as well as the same installation on a Linux server simply because of the languages and extentions used. If the hosting package is something that you are locked into or it is free then it is perfectly possible to get it all up and running but the hosts would need to be willing to install the required extentions, PHP and MySQL.

 

Might be an idea to foward the providers the following instructions on installing it to IIS to let them know what they are in for:
