Wireless Projectors

Been looking into purchasing a wireless projector for use in college, it will be used on desks as well as beginning ceiling mounted for presentations etc. Looked on a few computer suppliers’ websites and found quite a few that matches the only problem is;

I am a little confused I thought the wireless was built in but it seems that it has a PCMCIA card slot on some. Will it take any PCMCIA cards or just the ones that the company sells?

Any help or advice as to good wireless projectors would be really helpful too.

One of my schools has a Panasonic PT-LB20NTEA Wireless Projector in their hall and its a very nice piece of kit. Has inbuilt wireless. Very easy to use and you can connnect a number of laptops at the same time and have thumb nails of the displays / toggle between them.

 

The only downside it that video will not work over the wireless connection, then again I have yet to see a wireless projector that does.

Try the Epson EMP-835. It runs with 802.11g.

 

I've not used this model, but have had excellent reliability from other Epson's in the past. It's going to set you back the best part of £2000.

Use any projector & add one of these - Projector Server Fine apart from jerky video.

The panasonic can be had for under £1000.00

If the user laptop a wireless laptop and they use a wireless projector it cannot connect to your wireless network without a second card, bear this in mind when they ask what they'll be able to do and where!

Not so with the Panasonic. It can be configured in such a way that you can use both the wireless projector and connect to your wireless lan.

Do you really need wireless?

RM do an Ekko server that connects your projector to a wired ethernet port:

Again doesn't support video but only £152.10

 

I'd love to review one if RM would be kind enough to send me one

Plus additional effort and cost of LAN outlet in the ceiling, or finding spare outlet in room, plus another box to carry around and setup each time. Not to mention lining RMs pockets

I have looked at them and decided against them just yet, the image can go jerky quite easily and interferance on them seemed too high. I just use CAT5 extenders so its only 1 little thin cable to put under kick strip, or as I do put a LAN point in the ceilings with each power socket for the projector, that allows you to keep it all out of the way and make it nice and simple. The technology is nearly there though with the wireless projectors, give it another 12 months and I think it will be there.

I don't mind lining RM's pockets on some things but as with everything always checking out prices beforehand anyway.
