hbutcher Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 We bought the Asus Eee PC Series notebook PG 4G about 10 months ago and we have had no joy of getting them on to School wirless network. We have four with XP Office Home and the two with Linux on them. First with the XP Home one we are trying to connect through a school wireless network to access the internet only. We have set the laptop up with a automatic IP and Static IP and we have no joy. Under internet option, Connections, LAN settings when we untick use a Prox! y server we get a username and password box show and no matter what we try it does not let us connect. Just so you know we can connect to the wireless connection but it does not let us connect/surf to websites. We just get access denied or unable to display this page. The wireless network card and drive is enabled. Can any one advise me of how to get around access the internt through a School wireless network. Many thanks HButcher
kmount Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Hi there, Certainly on the XP Home one there should be no real difference in getting online unless your internet access is controlled by a system which insists your laptop/device is a member of the Active Directory domain. Can you confirm you've matched up the system settings including proxy server if needed against another working machine?
hbutcher Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 I have compared it to my work computer and it has made no difference. My boss and I am not sure if it is to do with the RM CC3 network? Thanks HButcher
Michael Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Even though the XP Home netbook cannot be connected to the domain, you should still get an IP through DHCP (which it appears you do), and connecting to the wireless network should simply be a case of entering the required password. I would agree with kmount's conclusion that you may have a system that requires the computer to be a member of the domain. Alternatively, have you tried entering the domain administrator username and password as follows: domainname\administrator
kmount Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I doubt (I'm sure) it's nothing to do with RM CC3 but would be more likely to do with your wireless solution or proxy not being configured properly. EDIT: If you plug a network cable into it and ignore the wireless, does it then seamlessly work?
SimpleSi Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Maybe just ask your network manager? regards Simon
