Little-Miss Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Anyone find an E-mail from Link2ICT this morning? To ICT Technician, Following a number of calls to the Link2ICT Service desk reporting slow Internet, investigations were carried out by the BGfL team who identified that slow internet performance may be a result of Policy Central and a higher than normal number of virus alerts. In order to reduce the activity on the proxy servers, schools are advised to apply the configuration changes to Policy Central and Sophos Enterprise as soon as possible. The BGfL team have also installed additional proxy servers. Once schools have started to implement the instructions below, we should see a large improvement in Internet performance. (See attached file: Policy Central - Configuration for Proxy bypass & Sophos Anti-Virus.doc) Thankyou for your co-operation Link2ICT Ours was only slow for a couple of days, it's been fine since...
DevilsAdvocate Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Ours was terrible up until last week while they added the additional proxy servers. Constant drop outs and slowdowns. Been fine since, however we are supposedly maxing out our connection every so often
jamin100 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Yeh ours has been fine this week. It was really slow at times last week. Are you hosting PCE yourself or is it hosted at BGFL?
Little-Miss Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 I think from the lack of any sign of it on our servers it must be hosted at BGFL. If i'm honest i havent had a lot to do with it at the moment. I was trying to go on some free training but it was full.
Michael Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I received the same e-mail and attached document also. I'm not so sure what to make of the recommendations however. Adding 10.* as an exception is one of the first things I do anyway, otherwise accessing Network Printers or Access Points just doesn't work. If you host something like Knowledge Box, you'd have to add this exception also. As for the Sophos recommendation I think this is purely advisory if Sophos keeps detecting Policy Central as "suspicious behaviour". This happens at some but not all sites. BGFL have done a good job getting things back up and running and even phoned me back to do a few checks, especially with downloads 100MB+ in size. I just have some reservations whether the above recommendations are going to speed up the internet
eduabncs Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 (edited) Ok, for those of you who didn't get the email, the document has now been posted to the IT Support Pages on the Link2ICT website. Here is a direct link to the the PDF file that was posted there and was also sent out by email earlier. If you require any help implementing the advice, please log a call with the helpline and someone on 2nd line will get back to you. Edited April 1, 2009 by eduabncs 2

eduabncs Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 It chould be that your email address is not on the mailing list. Might be worth letting the Servicedesk know so that they can check and add your address if required!
