Shared Photos Drive - Permissions

Can anyone share how they setup shared photos directories for staff - we have a shared photos directory but some muppet moved all the photos from the shared drive to their z drive one day. Our techs tightened up the permissions but any tighter solution they try stops write access for staff. We would like staff to be able to drop good photos there but not delete or move.

You can set permissions so users can read/write files but not delete. Not sure if you can prevent a move (because effectively that's a rename operation)

 

What about using a web based photo gallery. Users can then upload photos, appropriate people can look at them but no-one can just shuffle things around. Joomla does a photo gallery add on but there are quite a few others.

how do u make it so they can only put photos there?

surely that would just be the read/write permission

if they got write, whats stopping them putting any old non-photo file there?

Not sure you could enforce through NTFS permissions, infact certain you couldn't!

you could enforce photos only thought 2003 r2 File management

I always found the hardest bit trying to explain to staff that a photo in a word document wasn't the same as a jpeg file....
