Print Credit

Hi all, as you can probably see im new to the forum, so gonna dig my teeth in asking and helping out!

 

I have an education establishment client that requires a print credit system, they previously had a Viglen Classlink one in place, but have decided to cancel their subscription.

 

Ive never really came across a client with a need for this so, i am asking you guys, do you know any good applications that allow print credit distribution and management.

 

Incase you require additional info on system.

 

Windows 2003 server - just the one.

Active directory structure with policies enforced via GPMC.

Shared printers all via the server w/IP address reservations.

We have pcounter here and its OK - it takes a little setting up and will look at incorporating it with our photocopiers and swipe cards in the summer.

Ive used a fair bit of print monitoring software and papercut was the only one we thought was worth selling. Give the trial a whirl and if you wish to monitor photocopies then let me know as it can get complicated

papercut does the job we need. We are running on a 40 day trial and its working perfectly for us!

ive just installed Papercut at a school this morning to trial and so far its exactly what they wanted from a reporting aspect, there not to bothered about the credit side yet as only teachers print at this school.

Yep the majority of sites we deal with dont bother with the money side of things, especially for a small school. The reports are run and then teachers are shouted at

I have used Pcounter in the last place. Good product and good support. Although there is a french lady on the support desk who is hard to understand

I use papercut. The backend is stored on a OS X Server and a second server install is stored on a 2003 server. This is the best bit about papercut as multiple server installs are allowed as part of the licensing thus allowing you to split your print queues across servers.

This would be the same regardless of what software but basically you have 3 options.

 

1. copier companies own software

2. embedded software in the copier (if supported)

3. external hardware to monitor the signal.
