LHU Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Hi Due to advice from a previous thread we have Google SketchUp 6 running happily from a network share(installed on to a client and copied up program files folder created up to network share). However when I try to do a similar set up for "SketchUp 7" and try and run the program from a client I get an error message: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration in incorrect....."

meastaugh1 Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I fell foul of this as well (repackaging), then I saw on another forum that it already comes as an MSI. I think because 6 didn't, I expected 7 to be a legacy EXE installer as well. Just extract the exe out which produces the MSI ready to deploy. 2

I've just tried it and deployed it out to one of suites. Can't believe we didn't think of this before. Thanks!
ICTSM Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Have stumbled upon this solution...and now no errors are being displayed. However, the software does not start. If I login as an admin and run the software, then logoff...normal users can run the proggy. Anyone come across this?

IIRC, this is due to SketchUp adding files to a folder within the %ALLUSERSPROFILE% folder when it runs for the first time. Since restricted users wouldn't normally have write access to these folders, that's why logging on and running it as admin works. You should be able to find out exactly what it's doing by using Process Monitor and then create a transform to modify the .msi's behaviour. Edited October 25, 2009 by Arthur 1

I had a go at creating a .mst which does what I mentioned above and have attached it to this post if you want to give it a try? I made it using InstEd, although you can use Orca to make changes if you need to. You shouldn't have any problems allocating it via Group Policy as long as you include the 'CommonAppDataFolder' in the same folder as the .msi and .mst. PM me if anybody would like this zipping up and sending - should work fine on CC3 (not sure about other networks) but obviously do your normal bout of testing first! 1

Hiya, im in a school and we need to install sketchup 7 would it be possible to get a copy of the package for cc3 as we run that too.
