Server 2008 remote desktop problems.

Hi.

Im having a few problems with remote desktop and our 2008 based IIS server.

Basically, unless i log in as the local admin, any other account seems to either stall on the 'welcome' part of the login, or the 'processing printers policy' one.

Which is very very strange as there are no printer policys applied to either the user im testing with nor the OU that the server is in.

 

Im just running Windows Update on it now and updating it with 22 updates, see it that make a difference.

 

Anyone got any ideas?

Did you apply printer policies to the Default Domain Policy? If you have a look at GPMC for both the server and the user, you can then clearly see what policies (if any are being applied).

 

I'm not sure why it's getting stuck processing printers, because I deploy printers using GPOs and it never has affected logging on at all. How long have you tried leaving it?

If it only happens on remote desktop. In the options uncheck it so printers are not brought to the server from the client.

Well thats let me log on, now i just need to work out why it wont let NOD32 wriote to the programdata area during install...

I've never played with it on 2008, but i've just been playing with it this afternoon on 2003.

It might be that the user you wish to log on isn't a member of the Remote Desktop local group on the server with remote desktop installed. That got me confused for a while!

hmmm - i had a quick look at this earlier - we have a few server use accounts, and have server 08 - all managed by rdp. Havent seen this issue before. These accounts havent been used on a svr 03 box, or have roaming profiles? Like previous post - check Remote Desktop Users group.

Event logs say nout.

They are part of the remote desktop users group.

 

Ive managed to get it mostly working now. At least enough to do what i wanted to do.

 

Only problem now, is that its now happening to the sims server as well.
