Our exams invigilator is trying to allocate students seating within the examinations module in sims. Every time she clicks save the window freezes and then hangs.

I used Task Manager to monitor the computers performance and watched the network use but both where almost idle as if the computer wasn't doing anything. I uninstalled then reinstalled sims tried it again and it made no difference. I have monitored the server while this was happening but it didn't show any signs of why it would be happening.

The exams invigilator will be contacting our local sims team for help so I will see what they say.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Is there anything else I could look at or check?

We've also seen this behaviour when dealing with large amounts of data. Also refered to support team. Phil if you are about - any ideas? I know there was supposed to be some Exams updates in the Feb/March release, but Feb was binned - and March is late.

This is a known and longstanding problem . There is quite a lot about it on the supportnet website. There have been several patches which seem to solve some but not all schools problems with this so it is probably worth contacting user support for thelatest patch and give that a whirl.

Hi,

We are having a timeout problem with the same module. Do you have the patch number so I can request it please or even the KB number they asked you to try first?

Thanks

I was given Patch 12494 but it didn't really make a difference. I am going to apply the March update soon so apart from the horrible new home page there might be an update that will solve the issue.

Not a permanent solution but if you're desperate short term, try having the user carry this operation out on the sims server itself.

Server restart is also recomended...
