Hi guys!

I was wondering if someone could please let me know where I could find a copy of the Nova T6 userguide/manual. I have Googled, and checked the Capita website but to no avail.

I do not currently have access to Nova T6 but am due to go on a training course quite soon and would like to have some idea of what I have let myself in for, before I actually arrive.

Many thanks,

You should be able to find it in

c:\program files\sims\sims .net\t6manual.doc

Personally, a horrible document to navigate and find what you want. Bit vague at times too.

I think if he did then I for one would be pouncing.

Having worked through Paper & Pencil, Nova Dos, Nova Windows, NT4, Modelling and Construction, and now NT6, I reckon I could dispute Chris's statement!

I would strongly recommend that newcomers to NT6 go on the NT6 Course before attempting to use the program. Yes it is complicated but, then again, putting a timetable together successfully is a complicated procedure. The Manual is user-friendly, but only as a reference to consult for the odd technique you may have forgotten or have not used before. I would not recommend it as a substitute for the NT6 course.

Good Luck Apprentice. I look forward to you joining the esteemed Guild of Timetabling.

The doc is horrible, use the pdf. It's much easier to navigate and search.

When in SIMS click on the Documentation tab on the left hand panel.

Then choose Other Handbooks, Nova-T 6 is near the bottom of the second page.

The other point of doing this is that then you will be using the most recent version. I believe from now on the location of the handbooks is centralised on the server to minimise the impact on local machines of upgrades. So, if the handbook gets updated your local copy wont.

The central location should now be - /SIMS/Documentation.

In my case it's S, so

S:\SIMS\Documentation\T6Manual.pdf

Saying all that, i'm sure that when you click for help from within Nova it always brings up the word document, which isn't too pretty. I doubt it's been updated for a while so i guess it's all academic.

Oh yeah, the Optimus books are pretty good by the way, i've used the one on assessment before, it's great.

Making the most of SIMS .net - Timetabling for School Effectiveness by Nicolas Faux is a good book, you can get it from http://www.optimuspub.co.uk

The manual is more this is how you do it (with sims), where as the (above) book is more of a guide, still it's not cheap, but it is worth the money. Still roll on Nova-T7!

I find Nova-T etc to be one of those things like Unix, ok it's old, but it's still be best, just no everyone likes it or can use it.

@Phil, you getting a bit defensive over your old baby?

Slightly different thread, but I have the T6 manual - all 4 billion pages of it, and am starting my second ever timetable. I cannot find how to access the wizard that carries forward the bits of last year that carry over (like Y10 - 11 and Y12 - 13) so I don't have to start from scratch.

Any ideas??

:D

Data, Transfer Curriculum.

But make sure you get the correct Academic Years. Page 17-313 of the Manual!
