Can anyone tell me if you need Powerpoint installed to view a .pps slideshow? A teacher wants me to put some kid's work on the website.

I think you might need a viewer from MS but not sure if there is one for PowerPoint.

What about open office ( www.openoffice.org )

 

Not sure but maybe if the user has googlemail they can use google documents ( I think that can open power points ? not sure though

Ypu can package powerpoint PPS files for viewing on a standalone CD. This puts a copy of the viewer on to it. Does the show need to be viewed on the website or just downloaded?

Or open the pps in Open Office (might need to rename it back to ppt) and save it as Flash, but be aware that you lose a lot of the animation effects.

 

Naturally the kid will have ensured that all of the images in the file are from sources for which there is appropriate copyright clearance, because otherwise you couldn't put it on the website...
