Network Maps

Hi.

 

What do people use to make interactive network diagrams? I've started using network notepad but don't find it complex enough. I'd like to be able to draw a map with different buildings and then click on the building to get classrooms, click on classroom to get switches/stations that sort of thing. Am I asking for the impossible? This sort of map would stay on the servers as a point of reference rather than be printed if you see what I mean. Thanks for your help,

Unfortunately i don't have an answer for you, but i would also be interested in a product like this.

We taylored the dude over a bckground of the whole network for a basic quick over view of the network and servers switches etc that are up or down

We use The Dude. I've drawn a scale map of the site and located cabinets on it. Each cabinet is a submap with pictures of each hardware item, with appropriate links, etc. I've also created a "status screen" map which is displayed on a wall-mounted TFT in our network management office, giving us an overall view. The nice thing is that when something goes wrong, the affected areas of the map turn orange or red (depending on severity). Once something hits red, it will send me an email or a full text message to my pager.

 

I've then combined this with Spotlight on Windows, which tracks server loading, memory and disk usage, page files, etc etc, which is also displayed on a second wall-mounted TFT.

 

Nice thing about both of these is they're 100% free!
