Dos_Box Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Following on from a few posts recently, how about someone developing a standalone licence manager app? Just a few things fields such as company, software title, date purchased, amount and possible department would do, and have the option to export to CSV, XLS etc. Anyone up for it?

tmcd35 Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I'm working on a WAMP based Assett Management database for the whole school. I was 90-something% complete till I saw this post. It can handle software as it stands - but doesn't feel very 'neat'. I'm going to bolt on software licensing over today/tomorrow. Maybe when it's complete I'll look at zipping it up with some basic destructions. It's bespoke software, written for this school and would require some knowledge of WAMP to install and get running. The codes not pretty but totally open source so once I've zipped up a completed version y'all be free to dismantle it any way you see fit. Should have something by this time next week.

That way it would be easier for smaller schools with little or not technical support to use. It should be able to import\export too as to allow the easy transfer of the info.
DrummerBoy Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 (edited) Don't know if this would help, but we use SugarCRM here (commercial organisation), and there is an IT asset management plug-in available for that that also includes software licensing, and it's all open source!! Also has case and bug handling in the product as well. Just read Dos_Box's comment above. I know this stuff is not stand alone, but I have managed to install it, as it has a good install package. SYNACK Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 To generate the XLS export they would probably need excel on the machine that is runing it. I guess you could chuck the backend into an MDB file as it is not to big a database and you don't need access on the machine just the standard data components that ship with windows.

I would be, but what sets this apart from a spreadsheet?
SYNACK Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 (edited) I have a C# one tied into a MDB pretty much done just have not done the reporting bit. Exporting will be the easy bit it does not even require excel on the machine as there is an ADO connection for it. Can post what I have if thats any help. Edited March 24, 2009 by SYNACK

SYNACK Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 @Edutech - Thanks, have been doing little bits and pieces of it when time allowed. Current features, if you can call them that are as follows: Data - allows for addition of: Departments + Descriptions Suppliers + Contact information Media Types - CD etc License types - including whether or not they are unlimited Software - including all stuff that was in the above thumbnail Currently you can add and edit all of the above data and a summary is displayed on the frontpage as above. It does not need access or excell just windows with the .net2 framework to run and runs on a single workstation with no need to install it. If you have entered in a license expirey date it will tel you how many days you have left on the summary. I am/will be working on very shortly is the reporting section, this for the moment will be basic allowing you to select from the possible colloms which will then show up in a datagrid like the summary but will be exportable. Still thinking through the best way to do custom reports that go deeper in a simple way without having to build an entire query builder and then document it.
