Dance Ejay 2005 For Schools

Hi,

I've been given this software to install on our network. I've tried copying the files from the cd to a network share then adding a shortcut to the exe file on another shared drive so kids can access it. When i run it it works fine, no problems. when a kid tries it comes up saying "Corrupt Install Detected" and then quits.

I've found lots of posts on here about this software and how horrible it is to install. Has anyone actually found a nice easy way to install it so that kids can access it without having to be administrators and not loosing their network drives (i think the epal solution has this issue - correct me if i'm wrong!)....

local install with everyone having rights to use the program. Seemed to work like that, then install on the network and have a link going to the EXE, make sure though that the link is only used as a backup, and that children have access to where the file is located.

So if i install it locally then they should be able to run it ok? We don't have any restrictions on what they can run, but do they need full access to the folder that it's installed to? Any other settings that are worth checking?

Recently had this land on my desk as well. Ended up creating a msi and then rolling it out with the shortcut pointing at "C:\Program Files\eJay\Dance2005\ejay\Dance2005.exe" (slightly altered from the norm) which is a exe hidden in one of the directories.

 

The only problem so far is that it requires a admin to log in and run it before students/staff can use it.

 

Whether I just got lucky I don't know but either way it works

 

Hope this helps in some way as info on it's a bit none existent, I mean this idea I stole of a comment on the bottom of some post going on about using some piece of Microsoft software to allow temp fake admin rights.

I wonder why this works for some and not for others.

 

I just installed it directly onto the server and it runs fine from their - no tweaks other than a File Access Rule.

 

It did break Learning Resources (error message on load) but it was the day before I was pulling the plug on it anway so it didn't really matter to us.

Well it seems to be working....

Just changed the shortcut to point to "\ejay\Dance2005.exe" instead of the one it tells you to use. Does need a member of staff to log in first but that'll have to do!

I modified the shortcut for ejay to allow full permissions for all users. Works ok for me.

Are there more upto date alternatives to eJay 2005? out there free or paid. Our PA dept still use this but nearing 10years old I thought there might have been something "new" out there
