We have replaced ours with Lenovo Thinkpad R series. They have been a very study reliable machine. The few problems we have had have been sorted very quickly. Customer service has been very good.

Thanks for that. its very reassuring about the Lenovo's as we have 2 currently on test (R61i). Like you mentioned we had a few teething issues, but never seen it in the help desk since :)

Has anyone had any experience with Lenovo's in warranty support?

Yes, their warranty support is very good. Faulty touchpad phoned lenovo on the friday engineer out Monday morning to replace it.:)

I've swapped to Lenovo Thinkpads... they're rock solid! We use the T-series ones which are a bit nicer than the R-series... either way, the product lineups changed now to a new numbering scheme.

Warranty is excellent... we've used it a couple of times and never had a problem.

As a testament to build quality, we had a little darling messing around in a classroom and they managed to konock a T60 off the desk, ripping the projector break-out box off the wall, and there wasn't even a scratch on the laptop!

I believe you can also buy direct from Lenovo to sometimes get better pricing (I have never tried this mind).

I recommend Dell Latitude, very robust machines. If something goes wrong with them tech support is good and someone is on site the next day to sort the issue.

Another vote for the thinkpads. Best trackpads in the business and nice and reliable.

Just stay well clear of Toshiba kit, getting fed up of the amount of them I'm getting with nackered backlights (Satellite Pro's) due to shoddy build quality.

Dell Vostro 1510's

Would second that - no problems with ours (bought last summer) so far. Decent keyboards for a laptop, not too bulky (not actually all that much larger than your average netbook), come complete with bluetooth, webcam, etc. We'll see how batteries hold out.

All of our staff have Dells, apart from the occasional hard drive problem, they are excellent, and the hard drives are sent by Dell for next day anyway.

We use Novatech, but we're skint :)

(They probably aren't that much cheaper, it's been a "traditional" suppier here - I'm going to shop around.)

We're also using R61s - they're nicely bombproof.

The SL500s are alright, but the R61s feel sturdier, I could only club a seal to death with an SL500, whereas polar bears should be possible with an R61. Haven't got my hands on an R500 yet.

We have loads of the Lenovo T61 laptops, I'm kind of glad we aren't getting them any more...

I've had quite a few with dodgy VGA ports on the lapotps for use with our projectors. We are supposed to have next business day support and the latest call has now been going on for over 3 weeks.

The motherboard on the laptop needs replaced (this has happened to a few of the laptops) and each time an engineer comes out he says he's reseated the cables (very difficult as the laptop is in a drawer in the main office), he also says he's reset the BIOS (wonder how he's done that as they are password protected and it's still protected when I go in again.)

I've had to escalate this as it's not getting fixed.

When we call Lenovo (or IBM as they like to calls themselves, the engineers HATE being called Lenovo) they take the number for the school the laptop is based at, I give them my mobile number ans stress there is no point in calling the school number yet they never call me.

When I've called up their support number they have lied about calling me on my mobile and leaving messages several times. I've been promised returned calls yet am still waiting.

Never really had good support from them, looks like from the comments above I am in the minority though.
