Gibson335 Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Was just wondering what preferences people had when purchasing laptops for staff. We started with Tosh, then moved on to Fujitsu when the build quality improved. Went off Fujitsu due to their warranty support being so poor, and now back to Tosh. If any of you use Acer or HP or anything else, what's the support like (as the machines themselves seem to be so similar these days)? Cheers.
sparkeh Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Currently buying Toshibas. Can't fault them on build quality and the three year education warranty is good, not that I have had to use it yet though. 1
EvLPhenom Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 We have HP's here mainly, can't fault the builds and haven't had many problems with them, think only a couple of very old ones have "died" but they are mainly very good.

RabbieBurns Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 all our staff laptops are various HP but again, never had any reason to warranty claim 1
sippo Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 HP support in general is very very good. We have asked a replacement hard-drive, that is still in warranty, at 4pm and arrives the next day. They have gone down hill a bit recently, but I'm sure that it was just a blip.
Soulfish Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Just been told by SMT that we're not buying Toshibas ever again - too many problems with them failing (or small faults) that they're refusing to fix. Add to that we've had a huge number fail very soon after the warranties finished and both myself and SMT are fed up with Toshiba! 1

Yes, I know that their server hardware support had slipped badly, and so worried that their laptop support may have suffered as well. Cheers.
teejay Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 HP are on our blacklist with regards laptops due to their poor support. They are ok if it is something easy like a hard drive failure where they can just send out a replacement, but as soon as a laptop has to go back to them or an on-site engineer is booked to come out thats when the fun starts. It usually takes 3-4 visits for an engineer to fix the thing as they keep getting sent the wrong parts or the part they have been sent doesn't fix the problem. Sending them back is just as bad, usually come back still broken or with another fault, followed by a couple more returns and the the on-site engineer fun and games. HP customer services just don't want to know about any problems and are very unhelpful. However, HP warranty support on their network switches are great. Acer are also on our blacklist. They claim to have improved their support and warranty service, but never again. Tend to stick to Dell now. As long as you get pro support and have a good working relationship with them, they are spot on with service. 1
