Hi, is there an msi for sims for installation?

I've looked about, think i'm missing it though.. unless there really isn't one?

There seems some info here for requests for this, but they seem to have drawn a dead end.. or maybe it's coming?

We're about to install sims across the classrooms, not really fancying the thought of visiting each and every workstation.

Cheers

SIMS will run via Terminal Services - install it once on a server, have everyone remote into it. Avoids problems with data being stored on local machines, too.

You may wish to read this post at the start of this post:

Phil Neal works for Capita.

Thanks Geoff, I did read through that thread though it seemed to be a mix between msi for installation and/or upgrades. Admittedly people seemed to favour towards installation towards the tail.

But, the last post was back in June 2008, i was hoping things may have moved on and the msi might be released.

Guessing not though?

We found a package from another IT site that installed the solus gubbins so that first time a user ran sims it would all get installed & there after that it would update via solus. We also semi-automate this by having a script to run solus on each station after we do an update meaning that staff don't have to hang around.

I was introduced to an IT chap from an LEA. He knew of one school that had successfuly distributed SIMs using application virtualisation.

Has anyone tried packaging SIMs lately? With the demise of all the 16 bit stuff and borland database engine I wonder if it might work.

Doesn't exist (at least not for in general release).

Something is coming at some point in the future though, from what I've heard.

SOLUS3! IFit does everything as advertised then you can WOL all your machines at 6am, force SIMS updates onto the machines and voila everything automatically installed and raring to go before the teahers even turn up.

Apparently it will also inform you which machines failed, also install missing components such as .net 2 if not present and a number of other exciting, if boringly technical, things.

Was told when it was due for release, forgotten now. Want to say back end of this year for testing early next for general relase.

There are a load of scripts around on the forums for doing unattended installs on startup etc somewhere. I know thats how we do it here. If you cant find anything - PM me. Will share ours. I will try and get round to putting them on here. I think we scripted doing a reinstall silently for the user also if a solus update borked the machine as well. Need to dig that out. :getmecoat:
