Zoom7000 Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 A kid came round today telling me the Head of ICT said she could have a copy of Publisher to install at home! Honestly, does copyright not mean anything to teachers? Anyway, it was the first time I had a request for Publisher. Usually it is for Office and I point them to OpenOffice. However, it diesn't reakky come with a DTP application. There is Draw, but it can't open .pub files. So, does anyone know of any Free DTP software that will support .pub documents?

MS don't even have a Publisher viewer available compared to the Excel/Word/Powerpoint ones... http://www.scribus.net/ 1

I spent months looking for a suitable open source DTP program a few years ago and this is the only one I came up with. Couldn't find anything that ported from pub files though, only forums full of people moaning that they wanted it. I also remember an article of the scribus site saying it was next to impossible to do it. Things may have changed though since I last looked. Edited February 24, 2009 by _Bat_
featured_spectre Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Scribus is as close as you can get with a publisher clone, as for opening publisher files, I dont think anyone has managed to port it yet. When they do, I will be happy as it means we can finally open old publisher files and the kids can have there work back!
