ssiruuk2 Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Came across a bit of a weird one today. If logged onto the domain as any user and go to bbc iplayer - I get done with errors down in the bottom left hand corner of the browser. None of the videos work - just a blank page in the centre where the flash movie should be. Log on locally and it works fine. Its not the proxy (smoothwall) as bypassing that makes no odds. Install firefox and iplayer works fine. All other sites such as youtube work perfectly. Any ideas ? Im stumped! Nothings changed in the GPO's recently.. Thanks
FN-GM Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 It looks like its a group policy setting. I would have a scan through and see if there is anything there.
Michael Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 It may also be profile related. Try creating and allocating a new profile to a test user.
ssiruuk2 Posted February 9, 2009 Author Posted February 9, 2009 Thanks for the suggestions. I will have a look through the gpo but I don't know what would cause this only on bbc.co.uk/iplayer. Don't think its a profile problem as tried different users some with roaming or mandatory profiles and some with local.
gmiller Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Ssiruuk2 Did you manage to resolve this problem? I have been getting this same problem off and on for the past week. Smoothie box also but bypass in place. Done with error messages bottom left hand corner. Very frustating. any pointers? gmiller
ssiruuk2 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 Nope still no answer here. Getting really really frustrated trying all sorts to fix this... I have looked into different versions of flash, java and even .net framework following different forums I have come across with a similar problem. At the moment I am installing Firefox and using that for people need to use iplayer and they are going through the smoothwall fine with that browser. Its not a profile or permissions issue either as a problem machine showing "done with errors" wont let anyone run iplayer clips.. even a domain admin user with no policies being applied. gmiller : Have you had any joy?
Michael Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Looking at the System Requirements, it says it requires Media Player 10. If you open up MP10, Tools > Options > File Types, are they all ticked? And also, within IE7, Tools > Internet Options > Programs > Manage add-ons. Are Flash, Shockwave, Java etc.. add-ons all enabled?

Are Flash, Shockwave, Java etc.. add-ons all enabled? was just thinking about shockwave - I normally manage add ons via the tools menu when IE is open or launching IE 7 by right clicking on it and going to launch with no add ons and see if that makes any difference. Also doing a reset on IE7 under advanced tab and programs tab to restore default settings ?
ssiruuk2 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 Thanks for your replies. WMP 10 is installed and all the tick boxes for file types are checked. Java, flash and shockwave are all installed and work fine for other sites such as Youtube etc. I have tried setting the browser back to defaults but made no difference. The actual error if I double click bottom left in the browser is: Line: 1466 Character : 3 Error: 'iplayer.user' is null or not an object Code : 0
mac_shinobi Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 this : What is an Internet Explorer Script Error? OR » Solved: IE event - “this.parentNode.parentNode is null or not an object” @ nerd.
ssiruuk2 Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 Thanks for your suggestions mac shinobi - our LEA filter has blocked the second link and refuses to listen to my demands to unblock it so will have a look at home later. I did turn uncheck disable script debugging as mentioned in the first link and I get a load of run time errors do I want to debug etc. click through those and the video won't appear as per usual so I turned it back on. Grrr I hate iplayer!
