BSOD Laptop rebooting on startup

I've got a laptop which kept freezing occasionaly, so I powered it off using the power button and had been working well after that, but the same thing happened and now during booting it gets to the windows ...... loading screen with the blue dots and then reboots itself.

 

 

I have tried safe mode, last know good settings etc and finally tried do not restart on error and have managed to get the following message from the blue screen the error is

 

*** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x0001902FE, 0xF78EB824, 0xF78EB510, 0xF7218185)

 

*** Ntfs.sys - Address F7218185 base at F720B000, Datestamp 45cc56a7

 

any help much appreciated

Could be possibly a dead hard drive. Can you hear it click or anything?

Have you tried formatting it should do the trick. fixes most BSOD's

Most hard drive makers have a utility that will repair the drive give that a shot/

no deffo not clicking or anything like that, someone mentioned it might be caused due to overheating, i dunno if they were just guessing, but might give a can of compressed air a try.

If its over heats usualy they just shut off all together and not fail to boot.

the thing is i dont have the xp cd as it is a corporate version and i cant get hold of it from the techie, last thing i wanna do is hand my laptop over to him as i have important files on it and dont want him reformatting everything cos i will loose all my important work

 

hence me trying to fix it myself.

You want to be careful playing with it like that, might come down on you for it.

 

We normally recover any data before a reformat.

Yh, see if its done that then you might not be able to do so..

 

I know its probably not going to work, but maybe plug the hard drive into another machine as a secondary hard drive and see if you can access the files that way.

 

If not then, if you do get around to formatting it then do a file Recovery

 

If that fails.. then maybe Linux Live CD and see if that gets you anywhere?

 

I know sometimes even with BSOD, the above works

wat wud happen if i used xp recovery cd? wud i be able to repair n retain files?

Depends, some disc's give you the option to back up files instead of just wiping it clean.

 

but if you follow the wizzard it should give you the option or not as the case may be
