FN-GM Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Hi there I am after a VPN solution. I would like it so that a user can log into a webpage with a school laptop and then dail into the network without the need to install any client applications. Can this be done? Another thing i am after is a web based VPN solution like this - https://sslvpn.demo.sonicwall.com/cgi-bin/welcome I would like it to be free if possible, but i am open to see what else is on the market. Thanks Z
FN-GM Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 Welcome to OpenVPN Will that allow me to dial in without installing a VPN client? Thanks
Oops_my_bad Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 We use a netgear SSL-VPN (SSL312) however to add the adaptor the web interface installs the user will need to be a member of the local admin group - a problem you will come across with any web based VPN unless you set your group policy to allow this or set it up as the user whilst having temporary local admin. If you want to tie it in with AD authentication then use the RADIUS server method it supports (IAS or something), as the default AD integration is pants
FN-GM Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 (edited) Thanks for your comments. You have just reminded me of something completely different though, how would i allow it so they can install just one application and not any others? Thanks Edited February 4, 2009 by FN-GM
FN-GM Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 There are allot of laptops without it on you see. It is possible but not easy just seeing what else is out there.

FN-GM Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 Excellet i will give that a go, keep them coming
ssiruuk2 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Juniper SSL Secure Access here.. It does cost but it is probably the best system on the market.
jamesb Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Far from free I'm afraid but from what you're describing Windows 2008 TS Web Apps might be the type of thing you're looking for. I'm sure there's similar products which are free. Basically allows users to go to a website and run applications remotely on a terminal server. The application appears as though native to their own system rather than having a second desktop set up.

Thanks Z We bought a Sonicwall SSL VPN solution, excellent piece of kit, lots of scope for customising access. We originally had a service provide by our ISP but it became a pain having to make change requests to get new services setup for remote access on it. I also looked a a Juniper solution, very expensive (compared to SonicWall) and required some sort of CALS for accessing it.

I want this software for a small business who are have a small budget. Thanks
kmount Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Adito is free. We set it up for ourselves using the supplied Java VNC and RDP it's perfect for our needs. Not anywhere near as polished as paid for commercial solutions but it should meet their needs pretty well.
amfony Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 well the original ssl explorer was absorbed by baracuda systems - maybe check what they got going on. last i checked it was quite expensive - especially compared to the original ssl explorer pricing strucutre.
kmount Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 FN-GM, Adito is the free community driven fork from SSL Explorer before it went commercial (and fair play to them) and if the budget is as small as you imply I don't think you could afford the new pricing model amfony outlines.
