Problems with RM PCs and Nvidia gfx cards?

Recommended Posts

We have a few RM Ascend 2040A PCs and one of the desktops looked a bit fuzzy. When looking for new drivers for the graphics card I was shocked to see the web full of stories about these cards being faulty.

They are Nvidia G8400 cards. Our machines have been fine since we put them in, and I haven't noticed anyone complaining about them on here.

Anyone have problems with them?

Cheers

Lesser of two evils, but it depends what you're doing with them.

If you just want a graphics card to output to a screen with, and as with many schools the possibility of outputting to a second screen or projector, you'll prefer ATI hardware.

Nvidia did have a batch problem with a certain chipset which effected many of the Geforce 8000 series boards but that is mostly in laptop hardware rather than desktops. There have been problems with desktop boards but not of a surprising quantity.

Probably Pine (XFX) - they had a large batch of nackered 7200/7300's back in the day. Not that they were very helpful about it, their RMA system is something like "Ah, I see mr customer It's broken. We'll get that sorted out as soon as hell freezes over. Be having a nice day!"
