Hightower Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 We have been using our Terminal Server for nearly a year now with no complaints - but our exams officer now wants to use it. SIMS still loads up fine using her account, but when clicking to open the Examinations part it get a Incorrect .ini error. Tried this logging on as my account and get the same thing. Looked at GPo for TS and there's hardly no security in place and I can't see why it's being blocked. Logged on the the local admin user (of the TS) the Examinations bit works as expected. So I tried adding my account to the local admins but still nothing. Any help please?! Does your SIMS.net work on your TS? If so, were there any special steps you needed to take to get it to work?
FN-GM Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Our Server 2008 TS is fine with sims. What happens if you physically to the server and logon interactively, does it work then?
Mcshammer_dj Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 WIll sound starnge but have you tried to install the client directly to a machine and then looked at what happens. What version of examinations are you using and what version of SIMS .net
Hightower Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 SIMS.net loads fine but when clicking to load the Examinations app the ini error is: Incorrect Connect.ini file : SIMS.Processes.Exception More details doesn't give much information (that I can understand) and it isn't listed as to which ini file. The account can obviously access S:\SIM\connect.ini as the initial SIMS.net screen loads fine. Just to reiterate - this works fine for the local admin account.

What version of examinations are you using and what version of SIMS .net SIMS Examination Organiser v6.67 SIMS.net v7.112, Build 19, Database build 3.61.502 The client works fine on our CC3 and admin machines, with the user accounts in question. I have also tried a full uninstall and reinstall of SIMS on the TS.

What's the contents of that connect.ini? I'm wondering if its redirecting to a path which the non-admin account can't access.
Hightower Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 The S:\SIMS\Connect.ini contains [sIMSCONNECTION] ServerName=name_of_sims_server\SIMS2005 DatabaseName=sims
Hightower Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 P.S. The user accounts in question work fine on other machines and they connect using the same connect.ini so I'm thinking problem with TS somewhere.
wesleyw Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Not the SIMS server connect.ini the one on your TS server this should be located in c:\program files\sims .net\ I think. It should point at the connect.ini on your SIMS server. Wes
soapyfish Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Hi I have recently had a TS installed and SIMs made avaliable through it. Everything seems to work find but I did just check running the exams module and I get a Automation Error instead. The TS was setup and installed by capita !

wesleyw Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Exactly what it should say. I'll have a look at ours. Wes
jamesb Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Just as a test, try copying the contents of the S:\SIMS connect.ini to the local one.
Mcshammer_dj Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 don't forget thar exams is not yet a .net module. What happens for example when you try to run system manager on the terminal server
Hightower Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 Just as a test, try copying the contents of the S:\SIMS connect.ini to the local one. Just did this. Worked fine as local admin again, logged on as a different user to try it and exactly the same error.
jamesb Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 What are the rights on that file? Anything set up on your TS to restrict users from seeing the C drive?
Hightower Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 don't forget thar exams is not yet a .net module. What happens for example when you try to run system manager on the terminal server Sorry for my ignorance - how do I load that?
Hightower Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 What are the rights on that file? Anything set up on your TS to restrict users from seeing the C drive? They used to be restricted but for the purpose of trying to fix this I've unrestricted it now so users (everyone) can read/write/modify the C:\ drive including the SIMS folder and any files.
jamesb Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Okay, could you try renaming the SIMS .net folder to something else (.old, anything'll do) and then re-running SIMSApplicationSetup.exe from your S drive?

I've already tried that - those were the instructions given by Capita when clicking on the "find resolution" in the error box. Didn't change it.
wesleyw Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I'm getting the same problem as soon as I work it out I'll let you know! Wes
Hightower Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 I'm getting the same problem as soon as I work it out I'll let you know! Wes I think it's something that never gets used therefore we've never noticed the problem before - but since our Exams officer needs to do work on it from home we noticed the problem. Good to know it's not just our setup and it's something a little more "normal" in a sense.
