Hi Everyone. I am trying to setup a thin client with the edubuntu distro. I have the server up but can't remote in using the KDE remote terminal applet. Can anyone say how its possible to remote from a Windows XP/Windows Server 2003 machine to ubuntu 8.10 for remote management? This has really put a stop to my TC project.

Thanks

you probably need to install either VLC server, nomachine NXServer or an ssh server (cli), the edubuntu uses LTSP which works in an entirely different way as it needs to network boot, thus you can't remote in from a box running windows.

When you say remote in for management, do you mean you're trying to set up a single access method for yourself to get into X and change things, or you're trying to get all the clients using this?

If it's the latter - I can't help. But if it's the remote desktop for admin only, I'm using Xming here to connect directly to the x server on my Ubuntu fileserver from XP and it's working very nicely indeed. Took a little shouting to get it working but I'd say it's at least on par with RDP to a Windows server now.
