chalkwellstu Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Hi all, i need to beef up my ict suite and have to do it as cheaply as possible. i have noticed that Novatech are doing the ION pc-1222 for £205. however it is xp home. can someone tell me how this will interact with svr2k3? am i looking at some issues or will connect quite happily. many thanks SS
jamesb Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 XP Home computers are not able to join a domain, you'd have to upgrade to XP Pro. Its possible to work around this, but XP Home will only recognise local accounts so you'd need to get all of the local accounts set up on every computer. If you have volume licensing then your best bet would be to talk to your licensing supplier about getting licenses to upgrade them all to XP Pro.
chalkwellstu Posted January 14, 2009 Author Posted January 14, 2009 (edited) Rob/James thanks guys. looks like a no no for me unless i can blag xp pro out of it. really appreciate your fast replies. Edited January 14, 2009 by chalkwellstu
powdarrmonkey Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Speak to Novatech and see if they can OEM license it for Pro for a little bit more, as they're smaller than the big suppliers they might be able to arrange something for you.
