Michael Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I presume you're talking about a Government idea to pay secondary school teachers an additional £10,000 per year if they agree to work in special measure schools for three years (meaning schools which fail Ofsted). The Government are clearly very desperate.

MK-2 Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 (edited) well i worked in a special measures school, where some teaching staff were given extra management points just as an added pay measure to get them to work there. it was said the pay was higher as they had to deal with harsher circumstances than a normal school. we as support staff got f**k all extra, in fact i started on 12k there. i know of some teachers there who had an extra 5/6k from the off to get them to go there. it wont work. the best teachers will be ones who can teach and deliver lessons and know their subjects inside out. same teacher trying to deliver a lesson on IT in a school where 60% of kids are truanting internally, and the 40% that do make it just sit and talk and play on their PSPs and tell the teacher to f**k off if asked to do work. Yes you may be a great teacher, but if the kids dont WANT to learn (the school i worked at it was apparent they didn't) it makes no difference. It's the governments favourite old game of 'if we throw enough money at it, the problem will go away' Edited January 13, 2009 by MK-2
SpuffMonkey Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 My wife (who works in a "nice" school now, but has worked at horrible ones in the past) just laughed when she heard that on the radio - no amount of cash was worth the aggro in her opinion.
gwendes Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 I think that good teachers (not just ones that 'know their subject') are capable of doing amazing things with even the worst kids - I've seen it. £3000 a year is probably not enough though - these people are SMT and in special schools anyway...
